Holly Sperry, certified nutrition and wellness consultant and owner of The Nutri Therapy Center in Craig, assists a customer Tuesday at her office in Centennial Mall. Sperry said that leading a healthy lifestyle requires cutting sugars and processed foods out of diets and finding plenty of excuses to walk.
An ice statue by Colorado Ice Sculptures, of Denver, sits Tuesday in Alice Pleasant Park. The statue was created Friday for events during the Valentine's Day weekend in Craig.
With Tuesday's 42-30 home win against rival and league opponent Steamboat Springs, longtime MCHS hoops boss Craig Mortensen recorded his 500th career win.
Mortensen took over the MCHS girls basketball program in 1995, creating a Western Slope League powerhouse in four years. The Bulldogs have won eight league titles since 2000.
The 1989 Bulldogs celebrate a win against Harrison High School behind coach Mortensen (center with black tie). Mortensen labeled that victory as one of the most memorable of his career.
Fresh out of college, Mortensen took over the reigns of McClave High School in 1973, guiding the Cardinals to their first win in four years. Mortensen left the program after two seasons, and in 1976, he headed to Craig. Then coach of the MCHS boys program, the Bulldogs went 17-6 his initial year - the first of 26 wining seasons in Mortensen's 32-year Bulldog career.
Craig Mortensen was a walk-on at Adams State College. He earned the starting point guard position his sophomore year. Mortensen said he played the most basketball of his life his freshman year, as he logged about 70 games on the hardwood.
