Emerald Mountain is obscured by haze Monday afternoon. The smoky conditions over Northwest Colorado are the result of wildfires burning in California.

Borman is one of Emily Pfeifer's voice students who performed a recital at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Students performed a variety of musical numbers at the event, which was open to the public. This was the vocal students' summer recital, one of five throughout the year.
Christine Balderston most likely will be filling one of the open seats on the Moffat County School Board. Balderston has two children, 18-year-old Stephanie, who graduated from Moffat County High School, and 14-year-old Matthew, who is attending MCHS, both of whom are pictured behind her on the wall. Balderston said her children were a driving factor in her interest in joining the School Board.
Terry Earle, right, cleans up debris with the help of Dennis Barclay after an early morning structure fire at 1200 Washington St. Earle's storage shed caught fire Saturday because of an electrical malfunction, which 17 Craig Fire/Rescue firefighters responded to. The fire did not spread to any other buildings in the area, and no one was injured.
Emily Pfeifer's vocal students gather backstage to say a prayer before going on stage. Pfeifer said she likes to elaborate on the typical recital, combining more theatrical work. However, "we are first and foremost a vocal studio," she said.

JoAnn Lathrop, 70, and local teammates are competing today in the USTA Super Senior League district finals in Denver. Lathrop also has competed or will be competing at the district level in adult league and senior league tennis this year.
In a race earlier in the summer at Hayden Speedway, Loren Herring, in the white car, was able to close the gap and win. Now Herring, who has lost one race in the Super Street class, is waiting for someone to close the gap with him.
Simon Fresques, of Craig, looks at guns Saturday at the Bears Ears Sportsman Club Gun Show at Loudy-Simpson Ice Arena. Fresques said he likes to hunt but doesn't have any plans for this season.
