Joe Padon, 24, is starting off the year as the new Moffat County High School junior varsity golf coach. Padon, in his third year as a work studies teacher at the high school, is preparing his team for its next match, scheduled for Monday in Glenwood Springs.
Frank Sadvar, left, secretary of Craig Elks Lodge 1577, presents a check for $434.39 from the Elks National Foundation to Mel Shockley, commander of American Legion Post 62. The money donated will help pay for the upkeep involved with the Legion's swimming pool, located at the post headquarters, 1055 Moffat County Road 7. The Elks Lodge also is announcing that it will be accepting applications in October for their Most Valuable Student Scholarship. Garrett Stewart attempts to open his locker for the first time Friday at Moffat County High School. He had the help of friends, from left, Jay Carrico, Bonnie Carrico and Morgan Carrico. Garrett and Morgan are entering ninth grade, and they joined many other students during an MCHS open house. Students were able to find their lockers and classrooms before the first day of school, which is Monday.

The loader, created by LeTourneau Technologies in Longview, Texas, is one of five in the world and the largest of its kind. Each tire costs $100,000 and is covered in chains costing $40,000.
Jace Vasquez, 4, sits in what will be his preschool classroom. Three times throughout the year, his performance will be assessed by preschool staff to report on growth to the state and federal government, through an initiative called Results Matter.
Fandel replaces the pinion gear on a customer's motorcycle Wednesday. Toovey said summer is the business' busiest time. During the winter months, the duo work on projects and use extra space at the shop for motorcycle storage.
