Smith has no plans to quit cultivating bees. However, he said he fell into his passion by coincidence. When he was younger, he used to have terrible allergies until a friend who worked as a beekeeper started giving him bee pollen to take. Smith said it fixed his allergies, so he decided to start a hive of his own.
Smith holds up a honeycomb frame freshly pulled from a hive. He'll use a comb to brush the bees off, then take the frame home and put it in a centrifuge to shake the honey off.
Steve Smith, shown at one of his hives near Loudy-Simpson Park, has been tending bees for 35 years. He keeps 62 hives throughout Moffat County and sells honey, pollen and beeswax to local restaurants and stores.

Caroline Dotson, who has worked at Downtown Books for two years, is gaining full ownership of the store and plans to keep it open. Carol Jacobson, the previous owner, died July 29 in a rafting accident near Dinosaur National Monument. At the time of Jacobson's death, Dotson owned almost half of the business.
School District officials encourage parents to take a dry run at dropping off their students to get a feel for the new traffic patterns. Significant changes have been made in the drop-off zones because five grade levels have been added to the Craig Middle School and Sandrock Elementary School campus.
Kelley has been working on and making guns for 10 years. He said much of his business involves muzzle breaks and recoil pads.
