The 10th annual Mud Splash begins at 11 a.m. today at Loudy-Simpson Park.
January Zulian, a teller at First National Bank of the Rockies, counts pennies raised by city of Craig and Moffat County officials as part of the United Way pacesetter program. The city and county raised a total $563.06 in the second week of the fundraiser.
Sgt. Kathy Weiher presented her parents, George and Ann Kidder, with tokens of her appreciation for support while she was on duty in Iraq. She was reunited with her husband, Craig, who she married while on leave in February.

Weiher had just returned home from Iraq and was greeted by family, friends and members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265 and American Legion Post 62 as part of a new program to celebrate the return of Iraq veterans.

Burton said that when the city annexed his house, officials made a verbal agreement with him that he could keep horses there as long as he was alive. Now he faces fines if he doesn't move the horses. The Craig City Council will deliberate the issue, possibly making a decision at it next meeting Aug. 26.
Lex Burton stands with his horse, Abu, outside his home in north Craig. Burton has kept horses on his property off and on since he moved there in 1965, but he recently was informed by the Craig Police Department that he would have to remove them or be fined.
Wellman's pecan pie is ready to enter the oven. She said it takes her about a half hour to make a pie then about an hour to bake. Of course, it has to cool before anyone can dig in.
Wellman flutes, or crimps, a pie crust, which she said is the more popular way of making crust, but she also likes trying different methods, including braided crusts.
Wellman empties pecan pie filling into a crust she made. Wellman said she enjoys making all different types of pies, but pumpkin is her favorite.
