Mattie Jo Duzik, 10, was the named first runner-up in the National Little Britches Rodeo Association Royalty Pageant last month in Pueblo, which she achieved with her horse, Chunky. Mattie Jo spent six months preparing for the 10-day event, which took her out of her normal comfort zone as a rodeo girl.
Craig Fire/Rescue and The Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Service responded to an accident Wednesday on U.S. Highway 40, near Ike & Son Transmission & Auto. Two trucks and a car collided on the highway, and two individuals were taken to The Memorial Hospital. The road was closed for about 1 1/2 hours while emergency crews worked at the site. Samantha Johnston, TMH service excellence officer, said the two people taken to the hospital were treated and released that day, but she could not discuss their injuries because of confidentiality laws.
Members of the Emerald City Opera Artist Institute for Emerging Singers perform "Elixir of Love" by Gaetano Donizetti on Wednesday in the cultural center at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The free event featured students of the Emerald City Opera program, based in Steamboat Springs, and was sponsored by Northwest Colorado Community College's student government.
