A structure at 97547 U.S. Highway 40 caught on fire Monday night. Craig Fire/Rescue was paged to the scene at 8:50 p.m. Craig Fire/Rescue chief Bill Johnston said the owner of the home was taken to the hospital with burns after an explosion occurred as he was trying to light a wood stove. Johnston said the fire was under control about 10 p.m. Suppression efforts continued past press time. The cause of the fire is still to be determined.
Mary Karen Solomon, a humanities and English instructor at Colorado Northwestern Community College, gives a presentation Monday on an Italian artist who students will study on an upcoming trip to Europe. The travelers embark Thursday for Italy and France and are scheduled to return March 24.
Carrie McMahon, right, and Jessica Hogue are two of 28 Colorado Northwestern Community College students and community members leaving for a 12-day venture through Italy and France later this week. McMahon, a CNCC student, received a $1,300 scholarship for the trip, and Hogue, a Moffat County High School junior taking additional classes at CNCC, received a $2,500 scholarship.
