Zebra mussels cover a Lake Michigan beachfront, supplanting the sand with thousands of tiny shells. State officials are attempting to keep the mussels out of Colorado waters. Locally, Yampa River State Park authorities are conducting inspections of every watercraft before it enters the Elkhead Reservoir.
