Areas with a fast-growing industry — such as the energy industry in Northwest Colorado — can experience a drought in the job market if that industry is lucrative enough to pay higher wages, said Ben Alexander, Headwaters Economics associate director. Headwaters conducted a recent survey on the energy industry’s impact to local economies across four western states.
