Marvin D. Lyons

Marvin (Corky) D. Lyons of Grand Junction passed away peacefully on August 20, 2015 at HopeWest Hospice Center. He was 84 years old.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the BPOE Elks Lodge, 51939 Highway 6, Glenwood Springs, Colorado on September 12, 2015 beginning at 12:00 noon.
Corky was born July 4, 1931 to Abner R. and Wilda J. Lyons in Hayden, Colorado. He spent his childhood on a ranch outside of Hayden until his high school graduation in Craig, Colorado. He met his wife, Dorothy, in Craig and they were married in Glenwood Springs on July 15, 1950. From there he attended Colorado State University and Adams State College where he obtained his bachelor and master degrees in Education. Corky taught high school geometry and algebra at Glenwood Springs High School until his retirement in 1986. A talented storyteller and consummate practical joker, he was an avid outdoors- man who loved hunting and fishing and shared this passion with his family and friends.
He is survived by his three children, sons Mark (Brenda) Lyons of Desert Hills, Arizona, Kirk Lyons of Westminster, Colorado and daughter, Terri (Tom) Smedra of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one sister, Leora (Keith) Smith of Baltimore, Maryland and one brother, Ralph Lyons of Delta, Colorado; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Don Miller Scholarship Fund, attention Sandy DeCrow at 103 Current Drive, New Castle, Colorado 81647 or at any Alpine Bank location. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of HopeWest Hospice.
