Merle Linton

Craig resident Merle Linton passed away on Feb. 10th at The Memorial Hospital in Craig at age 83. He was born on Aug. 20, 1931 in Spencer, WI to Radford and Ruth (Sanner) Linton. He was raised in Muscoda, WI and graduated high school there in 1949. He married Bonita Bolling on July 15, 1950 in Sterling, IL with 2 sons born to this union. He worked in a steel mill in IL for 15 years. In 1967 they moved to Colorado. He then worked as a carpenter until he retired in 1993. They lived in the Denver area until 1969 when they moved to Oak Creek. They also lived in Steamboat Springs, Hahns Peak, Craig and Edwards. In 1994 they returned to Craig and spent several winters in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Bonnie preceded him in death in 2007; also preceded by his parents, brothers Jack and Dale Linton and sisters Ilene Duprey and Pauletta Linton. He is survived by sons Mike (Eunice) of Craig, Randy of Clarkston, WA, his grandchildren Seth Linton, of Craig, Tara Hess (Blake) of Greeley, CO, Marla (Jesse) Jackson of Craig, and Levi Linton of Clarkston, WA, his great-grandchildren Leah and Catcher Jackson and Keira Linton of Craig. He is also survived by his twin sister Doris Futrelle of NC, sisters Marilyn Futrell of FL and Pauline Vandiver of IL and brother David Linton of WI as well as many nieces and nephews and his faithful dog Toby. Merle enjoyed the outdoors, bowling, attending the great-grand children’s school activities and sporting events, taking Toby for walks and watching (and usually cussing) the Broncos, Rockies and Nuggets.
