Jewel Beckert

1936 – 2014

Craig Resident, Jewel C. Beckert, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at his residence in Craig. He was 78. Upon Jewel’s request, no services will be held. Jewel was born the son of Jacob & Lola (Hardin) Beckert on January 19, 1936, in Pattonsburg, Missouri. At the age of two, the family moved to California. Jewel joined the U.S. Army in 1954 for three years. He was employed at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California for over 42 years, retiring as Senior Electrical Engineer. Mr. Beckert continues to act as a consultant for the company until his passing. On December 16, 1978, Jewel married Donna Leffler in La Crescenta, California. The couple celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary this year. Jewel, a devoted husband and beloved father and grandfather, enjoyed crossword puzzles and time with his pets. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and close friends. Jewel is survived by his wife, Donna Beckert of Craig; four sons: Barry Beckert, Jeffrey Beckert of Aguanga, CA and Kevin Beckert of Canyon County, CA, Lawrence Stoudt of Southern, CA; two daughters, April Beckert-Pickett of Chino Hills, CA and Theresa Johnson of Maybell, CO; and one sister, Margaret Watts of Lanett, AL, and his former wife, Georgiana Beckert. He is further survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Jewel was preceded in death by his mother and father; three brothers and two sisters.
