Iris Lois McAlister Balleck

Iris was born in Dixon, WY on Oct. 2, 1925 to Ira and Rhonda (Adams) McAlister. She attended the Savery and Dixon schools until her senior year at which time she moved to Craig and graduated from high school in 1944. Iris worked for Leland Ray and Mary Smith until her marriage to Tony D. Balleck November 2, 1955. She moved to the Balleck farm on Elkhead and lived there until Tony's health forced them to move to Craig in 2004. The couple enjoyed the quiet of farm life. Iris loved planting and caring for her garden as well as canning and freezing the produce. She made lots of butter, picked & canned fruit and enjoyed cooking meals for family and friends. She enjoyed baking and will be remembered for her outstanding cinnamon rolls. Iris is preceded in death by her mother, father & husband; brothers Donald and Bruce and sister Beatrice Roe. She is survived by a son, Tony B. (Joyce) Balleck, a daughter Nancy (Richard) Foster all of Craig, CO; A brother Paul (Fran) McAlister of Lake Havasu, AZ; 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A service will be held next May.
