Laura Swanson

Laura Emelia Forsberg Swanson, 98, of Lingle, Wyo., died August 10, 2013 in Lingle. She was a Craig resident from 1937 to 2006.
She was born February 4, 1915, to Emil and Laura Blixt Forsberg in Stockdale, KS, in a farmhouse. Three weeks after she was born her mother passes away leaving Laura, her two-year-old sister Violet, and a grief-stricken father. She was then cared for by aunts and uncles in KS until she was 10 years old. Her father remarried and the family moved to Denver.
She graduated from West High School, Colorado Women's College, and Colorado Teacher's College in Greeley. Upon graduation, she accepted a 5th and 6th Grade teaching position in Craig,CO. She taught for 29 years in the Moffat County School system. She married George E. Swanson on May 27, 1939, in Hamilton, CO at a Sunday school picnic. They farmed in Hamilton and Hayden, CO and also for one year in Riley County, KS.
During Confirmation Classes in the Evangelical Mission Covenant Church she believed the scriptures and accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and lord. She was very active in church ministries throughout her life. She was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Gideon Auxiliary. She was a Craig hospital auxiliary volunteer. She liked to crochet blankets and gave one to each of her children and grandchildren. She submitted many needlework projects and baked items to the Moffat County Fair.
In 2006, Laura and George moved to Lingle, WY to live with their daughter and son-in- law, Ruth and Dick Young. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, stepmother Edith Lindstrom Forsberg, her sister, Violet Bartha, two great-grandsons Joshua and Jacob Halley, and five unborn great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Dick Young of Lingle, WY, Joyce and Peter Van Dorn of Longmont, CO, and Dorothy Jackson of Colorado Springs, CO; 6 grandchildren, Rod and Julie Young, Rachel and Jeff Halley, Kari and Carl Nelson, Doug and Janelle Van Dorn,
Marsha and Dave Burke, and Stephen Van Dorn; 14 great- grandchildren, Rebecca Young Decker and husband Jordan, Anna Young, Laura and Reece Halley, Franklin, Carlson,
and Emelia Nelson, Alesha, Branna, Annika, and Elianna Van Dorn, Noah, Evan and Kyla Burke.A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Yampa Valley Baptist Church in Craig, CO with burial to follow in the Craig Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Gideon's International.
