Carol June New
January 26, 2013
Carol June Brownlee was born April 28, 1935 to Walter (Dutch) and Melvora (Everets) Brownlee. She was the second oldest of 7 children.
Carol was raised in Orchard on her parent's ranch. She loved to be outside riding and moving cattle with her dad and brothers, instead of in the house doing domestic chores.
Her sister Mary said that she would start singing Little Joe the Wrangler while she was riding along behind the cows.
Carol attended grade school in a 1 room school house north of Orchard. She attended High School in Weldona, Colorado.
In 1950 Carol married Clarence Walker. To this union 5 children were born. Carol moved to Craig and married Sonny Wondra. To this union 2 children were born. Carol later married Bob New.
Carol had a lot of gypsy blood in her and loved to travel the country just to see it. She has been as far east as Pennsylvania, over to Arizona and up to Seattle. Carol also has driven the Alaskan Highway twice. But Craig was always home.
Carol worked in the restaurant industry most of her life. She owned the Wagon Wheel Café in Baggs, Wyo., for a number of years.
Carol later worked as a cook for oil drilling camps. Her eyes would light up when she talked about being so remote. One time near Jackson Hole, Wyo., they had to fly her up in a helicopter.
Carol always dreamed of going and seeing new country. In her last few months she said to her sister Gayle that she believed she would move somewhere warmer, maybe California.
Carol was well known for her cooking and baking abilities. She never used a recipe. When asked how to make something she would say, "Oh you put a dab of this, a little of that and a skosh of something else."
No one ever really knew how much a skosh was. But she did!
In her later years she baked for the Golden Cavvy a couple times a week. People would come for all over the area to enjoy her pies and her famous homemade cinnamon rolls.
She was a fiercely independent woman. She would say, "Ain't nobody runnin' my show!"
Carol is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lonnie and Pat Brownlee; two sisters, Peggy Marin and Joyce Niccoletto; one Grandson, Jeff Walker; and one great granddaughter.
She is survived by her two sisters, Gayle Lord and Mary Carpenter (both of Craig); and her children, Danny Walker, of Craig, Mike Walker, of Craig, Randy (Dawn) Walker, of Springfield, Ill., Sherry (Matt) Weber, of Baggs, Wyo., Cindy Walker, of Albuquerque, N.M.; Donna (Jimmy) O'Neal, of Casper, Wyo., and Kenny (Charlynne) Wondra, of Casper, Wyo. She also is survived by 14 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Carol left this world and went home to meet Jesus and be welcomed by the rest of her family.
