Ruby Pearl Pankey

Ruby Pearl Pankey was born July 3, 1922, near Craig, the daughter of Winfield Scott and Elba Pearl (Miller) Pankey.
She was raised in Craig and attended school in both Craig and Hayden.
Ruby left school in the 10th grade and worked on the Focus Ranch and traveled with her cousin, Maudeline. She also spent time in Virginia.
Ruby married Gordon Gaskill on June 25, 1952, in Albuquerque, N.M. They made their home in Tijeras, N.M., for many years and became the parents of a son, David. They spent their summers in later years in Benson and later moved to Turtle Lake, N.D.
Ruby enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, quilting, working crossword puzzles and writing poems. She was also very fond of animals.
Ruby returned to Craig following her husband’s death in October 2000.
She died Saturday, March 16, 2012, at Sandrock Ridge Care Center, where she had spent the last month of her life. She was 89.
Ruby is survived by her sisters, Stella A. (Sheldon) Little, of Watertown, S.D., Mary Lou (Don) Little, of Castlewood, S.D., Inez Smith, of Craig, Doris Adams, of Lubbock, Texas, and Daisy (Don) Smith, of Craig; and her brother, Winfield (Reva) Pankey, of Craig. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harold Lee Pankey, and son David Scott Gaskill.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at The Journey at First Baptist with Leonard Browning officiating. Concluding services and interment will be at Mountain Valley Cemetery in Edgewood, N.M.
