Elizabeth Ann Townsend-Chute

Elizabeth "Betty" Townsend Chute died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, after a brief illness. She was 81.
Betty was born Nov. 2, 1930, and lived in Columbus, Ohio, until her marriage to Edgar Townsend on Aug. 29, 1947, in Greenup, Kent.
They moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, to begin their married life.
The family moved to Colorado in 1951, and raised four children. Betty was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross.
With the death of Edgar in 1977, Betty moved to Phoenix to begin the next chapter in her life.
On Aug. 15, 1980, she welcomed into her life her husband of 31 years, Ivan Chute.
Betty was avid golfer and world traveler, along with her husband.
Survivors include brother Wilbur Liddil, of Columbus, Ohio; husband Ivan; children Richard (Carol), June Ward, Laird (Kathy) and Cindy (Steve) Martin; stepchildren Judy (Rick) Cox, Arlene (Art) Guena, and Rick; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, older brother Charles, and first husband, Edgar.
A memorial service was Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Moon Valley Bible Church, 16207 N. Third Ave., in Phoenix.
Friends and family shared memories of Betty at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made at the Desert Mission Food Bank, 9229 N. Fourth St., Phoenix, Ariz., 85020.
