Steven Ward Dunsmuir
December 5, 2011
Steven Ward Dunsmuir died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. He was born Oct. 18, 1949.
He was preceded in death by his mother Hope Foster; father Frank Dunsmuir; and daughter Kelly Sue Dunsmuir. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, sons Drew and Tye, daughter Devon, and granddaughter Melanie.
Our dad was born in Portland, Ore. He spent his youth traveling between Oregon and Colorado.
His father passed when he was 16, at which time he decided to live full time in Craig with his mother. He served in the Navy as an airplane mechanic.
Steve returned to Colorado after his service and met our mom and his love of 38 years. Together, they had Kelly who passed from this world as soon as she entered it.
They then had the three of us: Drew, Tye, and Devon. He loved children, especially his granddaughter, Melanie.
He spent his career driving trucks and retired from Western Coal Carriers.
He was a loving father, husband, and friend.
Even at the end of his life, he treated strangers as if they were friends, never turning down an opportunity to shoot the breeze.
He taught us anything we were willing to learn and he was always a patient teacher.
On your darkest day, he could always make you smile and even in the worst of circumstances he would reassure us all unwavering, "It'll be alright."
His love of fishing began at a very young age and was a passion of his throughout life.
He did not like or wish to have a traditional funeral.
His ashes will be spread over the ranch in Lilly Park and we invite all of his friends and family to join us in the summer to fish and have a beer for him as he would have wanted it (date pending).
We love and miss you, Dad. You live on in our dreams and memories.
