Alvin John Bernard, 38, of Craig, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, in Medellin, Colombia, after a long illness.
John was born Sept. 13, 1972, in Scott City, Kan., to Ronald and Darlene Bernard.
John attended school in Scott City until 1981 when he moved to Trenton, N.D. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1991.
John was a member of the North Dakota National Guard as a helicopter mechanic. John also spent part of his life working as a U.S. Mail contractor in Minnesota, a coal miner in Colorado and a power plant operator in New Mexico.
John is survived by his grandmother, Mildred Bernard, of Mesa, Ariz.; his parents, Ronald and Darlene Bernard, of Craig; brother Steven Bernard, of El Paso, Texas; sisters Ellen Bahre (Roger), of McPherson, Kan., and Kathleen Del Toro (Jose) of Killeen, Texas; nephews Riley Bahre, and Noe, Ronald and Shane Del Toro; and his best friend Kevin Jung, of Williston, N.D.
John is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Alvin L. Bernard; maternal grandparents, Johnny and Wilma Frank; and uncles, Alvie Eugene Frank and John Bernard.
In lieu of a funeral service, John had requested a party, which will be held at Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011.
