Robert "Bob" Martin Neher passed away in Craig, CO on Friday, April 7, 2017. Bob was born in Ventura, California on July 22, 1945 with his twin brother, Richard. Bob graduated from Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, NJ in 1963. He attended college then entered the Army in 1968, becoming an air traffic controller. After serving his tour of duty in Vietnam he returned home and became an air traffic controller with the FAA. He was a controller with the FAA for over 34 years, spending the most time at Los Angeles Center in Palmdale, CA. He eventually became the Traffic Management Officer for LA Center. He was married for 48 years to Susanne Akins Neher. After Bob retired in 2004 they moved to Hawaii and lived there for 9 years. He spent 2011 and 2012 as an instructor at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, OK, then returned to Hawaii as the chief of ATC training at the FAA Honolulu Center, retiring a second time in 2013. After full-time RVing around the US in 2013 and 2014, they moved to Craig to be close to their daughter's family. He was active in the VFW in Craig, taking part in many parades and "bingo Sundays".
> Bob spent many years in California and loved surfing in the ocean. His dream was realized when he surfed several times at Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. He also loved classic cars and owned many in his youth, and a 1930 Model A coupe and a 1940 Ford sedan in recent years. He loved going to classic car shows all over the country. His main reason for buying the 1940 Ford was because it had a backseat "for the grandchildren"! He was also an award winning apple pie baker and loved making them for county fair competitions and family holiday dinners. He was the Beach Boys biggest fan and attended many of their concerts.
> Bob is survived and well loved by his wife, Sue, his son David (Sherry) of Modesto, CA and daughter, Becky (Ryan) Fritz of Craig. He also has five grandhildren, Hannah Neher of Modesto, and Abigail, Millie, Emma and Robert "Robbie" Fritz of Craig. His older brother Van (Sandi) of Pennsylvania, and his twin brother Richard (Pam) of Virginia. And many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Van and Elizabeth Neher.
A Memorial Service for Bob will be April 27th, 2017 at 4pm at The Journey at First Baptist Church in Craig.
