unknown - August 31, 2013

Frances Aldrich passed away on August 31, 2013 at home at the age of 90 years old, in Craig, Colorado. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio in the year 1923 the youngest of seven children to Jacob and Anna Pastula. She grew up in Youngstown.
She met her husband, the late Gene Aldrich, through her late brother Anthony (Tony) Pastula who was adrift at sea with Gene and another sailor for 34 days in the south Pacific during World War II after the plane they were in went down. The ordeal is told in the book “The Raft” by Robert Trumbull.
Because of this event and Gene and Tony meeting and becoming close friends for life, Gene and Frances met and later married on April 4th 1945. Gene’s sister Lois met Frances’ brother Jack (Walter) Pastula and later also got married.
Frances and Gene lived in Pensacola, Florida after they married. After Pensacola they moved to Youngstown, Ohio, and in 1959 they moved to Santee, California, where she worked for the Santee School District for many years. She retired and moved to Craig in 1981 where she lived until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gene in 1973; her parents Jacob and Anna Pastula; her brothers Joseph and Jack (Walter), of Youngstown, Ohio, and Anthony (Tony), of La Mesa, California; and sisters Blanche Liga, Caroline Liga and Phyllis Furlong (Liga), all of Youngstown, Ohio.
