1952 - October 3, 2013
Vicky Ruth Shenk was born March 14, 1952 in Kermit, TX. to Jennie Ruth & Herold Junior Burns. She was one of five children born to this union. Vicky grew up in the south living in Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas before moving to Colorado. Her family permanently settled in Craig, Colorado in 1971. Vicky attended and graduated from Moffat County High School in 1972. Vicky was employed at numerous jobs during her lifetime; she worked at Mountain Bell from 1973 to 1978 when the Craig office was closed and moved to Grand Junction; She went on to work at Stefano’s Restaurant, the Coalrush Saloon, The Scoreboard Restaurant & Bar, the VFW and The Popular Bar. Vicky moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1988 and was employed by Sam’s Town Casino and Hotel where she worked until 2001 when she returned to Craig. Vicky worked for a security company at Tri-State and retired in 2009. Vicky loved all types of music, most notably Elvis; playing cards, collecting knickknacks, candy of all kinds and being with her family. The family gatherings at her mom’s home were among her most loved memories. Regardless of the day’s activities or disagreements Vicky always ended each visit by telling you she loved you and giving you a big hug and kiss. Vicky was gentle, kind, loving, and caring. She made you laugh with her simple ways and southern accent. She could make just about anyone laugh without really trying and when she started laughing you couldn’t help but join her. She loved shopping at K-Mart & Wal-Mart and all of the Dollar Stores regardless of the time of day or night. As complicated as her life became due to her health issues, Vicky stayed simple and true to herself and others. She was a rare type of person in today’s world. Vicky passed away October 3, 2013. She leaves behind two sisters of Craig, Dena (Roy Butler) Garcia, and Debbie (Carl) Gross; a brother-in-law Kenny Thompson of Craig, and a sister-in-law, Vicki Burns of Craig; many cousins, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
