Judith Ann (Guthrie) Mullis

Judith Ann Mullis

unknown - unknown

Judith “Judy” Ann (Guthrie) Mullis was born July 4, 1940, earning her the nickname “firecracker girl,” though nothing could be further from the truth. Born to Harry L. Guthrie and Ines Bessie Smith in Hoisington Kan., Judy had a quiet and calm personality, not especially expected with Hatfield blood running through her veins.
Being the only girl raised alongside brothers Donnie and Gary, Judy was a “Daddy’s girl” and she enjoyed an especially close relationship with her Daddy.
During high school, Judy’s brother, Gary, introduced her to Johnnie Lee Mullis and they slowly became high school sweethearts. She finished high school in 1957 and married Johnnie on Nov. 20, 1958.
Johnnie and Judy were blessed with two beautiful, albeit wild daughters: Anita Kay and Sheri Lea. The girls became her world, and becoming a housewife was like second nature to her.
In 1972, Johnnie and Judy moved their family to Craig. Once settled, Judy worked at Stockmen’s Liquors for 19 years. During that time, she continued to be a devoted housewife and skilled craftmaker.
In 1977, Anita Kay gave birth to Krisha Kay. In 1983, Sheri Lea gave birth to Vernon Jerald.
After she retired from Stockmen’s Liquors, Judy worked for the Visiting Nurse Association of Craig for seven years.
In her later years, Judy became a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where she was baptized. She took care of her great-grandson, Levi, during the work days and she continued to be an avid swimmer and home decorator. In her free time she enjoyed spending time with family, listening to Christian music, talking walks, swimming, being home with her little dog “Grizz” and watching movies or QVC. She loved being at home with Johnnie watching TV or looking at homes on the Internet. After 56 years of marriage, they were still very much in love.
After a year-long struggle with cancer, Judy went home to be with both her Daddies — earthly and heavenly — on March 22, 2013, at her home.  And just as she was in life, she was in death — quiet and calm.
Judy was preceded in death by her mom, dad and both brothers. She is survived by her husband, Johnnie Lee Mullis, of Craig; daughters Anita Kay Classen, of Craig, and Sheri Lea (Bruce) Stacy, of Blackhawk, S.D.;  grandchildren Krisha (Leigh) Fox, of Craig, and Vernon (Rachel) Snow, of Sunset, S.D.; great-grandchildren Levi James Fox, of Craig, Haley Ranee Snow, Kaylin Larae Snow, Ashlyn Lea Snow, and Trevyn Jerald Snow, all of Sunset, S.D.; and brother-in-law Willis (Beth) Mullis, of Aztec, N.M.
A memorial service is at 11 a.m. March 29, 2013, at Journey at First Baptist, with Pastor Leonard Browning officiating. Judy will be laid to rest alongside her family in Hoisington, Kan., at a later date.
