Peggy Joyce (Watson) Burch

Peggy Joyce Burch

unknown - March 3, 2013

Peggy Joyce (Watson) Burch was returned to heaven on March 3, 2013. She was surrounded by her family, adopted family and nurses of Sandrock Ridge Care & Rehab.
Peggy was born Nov. 16, 1933, in Electra, Texas, to Arthur and Lona (Wright) Watson. She was the youngest of the family following her brother, Buster, by an eight-year gap.
Unknown to Peggy, the love of her life, Carl, would be born the next day in the same hospital and live right around the corner. They were playmates, schoolmates, high school sweethearts and then, in April 1951, they were married. From this loving union, four children were born: Phyllis, Sharon, Carla and Edward.
The young family made their home in Electra. Carl loved hunting in Northwest Colorado and finally made the decision to move his family to Craig in 1968. During their time in Craig, Peggy worked at the newspaper. She was part of the Alpha Tau sorority and an avid bowler.
After all their children had graduated school in Craig, Peggy and Carl made their home in Denver to follow their dreams of breeding, raising and training race horses. Peggy loved a good horse race, and most of her family and friends have memories of a trip (or two or three) to watch her beloved sport.
Peggy was a die-hard Cowboys fan and could be heard throughout the house whooping it up for her “Boys.” She loved music and took in many concerts throughout the course of her life. Elvis, Reba (with her oldest granddaughters) and Country Jam were some of the ones she spoke of most. She was a beautiful pianist and played until her arthritis wouldn’t allow her to do so. Sunday mornings were filled with gospel records playing and pecan rolls hot and ready to eat.
Peggy and Carl traveled to many places and had a great number of adventures until his passing on June 3, 1999. She continued to live in Denver until an injury left her unable to care for herself, and she then moved to Craig in 2002. She had resided at Sandrock Ridge Care & Rehab for the last four years, where she kept all the nurses on their toes and gained one adopted daughter, Stacy, and adopted grandchildren Emma, Taryn and Max.
Peggy is survived by her brother, Buster (Clarose) Watson, of Craig; her sister-in-law Kathy (Wayne) Chambers, of Portland, Texas; daughters Sharon (Mel) Batchelor, of Craig, and Carla Marcley, of Carmel, Calif.; son Edward Burch, of Denver; son-in-law James Goodwin, of Craig; her eight grandchildren, Travis (Jayna) Christopher, Lona, Jacob (Brandy), Kimberly (Nick), Sara, Angela (Arielle), and Zachary; her 11 great-grandchildren Tyler (Penny), Tanner (Sandie), Trevor, Jordan, Trenton, Annalee, Chad, Dartagnan, Hailey, Kasen, and Toby; a great number of nieces and nephews whom she often asked about, and finally, all of the staff of Sandrock, past and present, who held Peggy in their hearts, including Stacy, her family and all her many friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her best friend and husband, Carl; and her beautiful daughter, Phyllis.
A remembrance of her life took place March 9, 2013, at the American Legion.
