Joel C. Davis passed away Feb. 05, 2013, the day of his 77th birthday.
He was born in Craig to Elmer Denton (Jack) Davis and Gladys Minerva Davis.
He graduated from Moffat County High School in 1954. He earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1958, followed by a law degree in 1962.
Joel was a long term resident of Boulder. After graduation from law school, Joel was appointed as Boulder Assistant City Attorney, a position he held for one year, when he became manager of the Boulder office of Transamerica Title Insurance Company.
In 1968, he accepted a position in the Denver law firm of Davis, Graham and Stubbs. In 1972 Joel and his beloved friend and classmate from law school, Peter Dietze, founded the law firm of Dietze and Davis, P.C., which celebrated its 40th anniversary in the fall of 2012.
Joel was licensed to practice law in Colorado, the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, and the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. He was widely recognized as an expert in the field of real estate titles and real estate title insurance, and for many years Joel was listed among the best lawyers in America.
His practice included estate tax planning and the administration of estates. He was active in the Colorado Bar Association and chaired the association’s Section on Real Estate and Titles in 1978/80.
Joel was active in the community. He served on the Boulder City Council from 1966 until 1968, when he resigned in order to practice law in Denver.
He was a long-term member of the Chamber of Commerce of Boulder, the board of which he chaired in 1974/75. For many years Joel served on the Board of the United Bank of Boulder, now Wells Fargo Bank, and was a trustee of Avista Hospital from 1978 until 1991.
Joel is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Persson, and son-in-law, Jonas Persson; granddaughters Heather Persson and Bridget Persson, all of whom live in Saratoga, Calif.; his former wife and loyal friend, Debra Towne, of Boulder; and Joel’s stepson, Troy Saine, his wife, Lori, and their daughter, Alexandra.
Joel Davis was a kind-hearted man, a wonderful father, grandfather and loyal friend. He was a highly respected lawyer and a thoughtful leader of the community.
Joel thoroughly enjoyed his law practice, his clients at Dietze and Davis and the camaraderie of his co-workers. He will be missed.
