1935 - October 2, 2012
Marie Lieske Philman passed away quietly Oct. 2, 2012, at her son’s home in Thornton. Cancer took her life.
She was born Dec. 20, 1935, to Arnold E. and Helen Lieske on the farm they owned between Ripon and Berlin, Wis.
When she was 12 years old, the family left Wisconsin in fall 1947 by way of Montana, Washington and California and ended up in Mesa, Ariz. They lived there about a year before heading to Colorado, where they settled outside of Steamboat and built the LCL Ranch.
When she graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in 1953, she went to Denver and worked as a nurse’s aide in a hospital. That is where she met her future husband, Clyatt (Chuck) Philman, who was in the U.S. Air Force. They were married in 1953. Being in the military took them to Texas, Florida, Montana, Spain and back to the Denver area of Colorado. To this union, 10 children were born: David, Glen, William, Jimmy, Connie, Joey, Danny, Anthony, Jerry and John.
Later, Marie and the younger children lived in Steamboat and Hayden while Chuck worked in Denver.
In about 1993 or 1994, Marie went to Ripon to help her dad take care of her mother, who was bedridden. When her mom passed away, Marie moved back to the Denver area to be close to most of her children.
She is survived by her 10 children and their families; 36 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; her brother, Arnold (Sonny) and Mary Ann Lieske, of Steamboat; her aunt Violet Bushweiler and uncle Robert Lieske, both of Ripon; and nieces and nephews.
She was laid to rest in Littleton.
