Franklin Konrad Toth died Tuesday, March 27, 2012.
Born May 17, 1936, in Chillicothe, Ohio, Frank pursued his passions for aviation and forestry all his life. In 1955, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as an airplane mechanic.
For his service to country, Frank earned a Good Conduct Medal and the rank of sergeant. Frank also served in the Civil Air Patrol for nearly half a century, beginning when he was just a teenager.
Following his military service, Frank earned a bachelor’s degree in forest management from Colorado State University. Soon after completing his degree, Frank joined the U.S. Forest Service to begin a career in forestry spanning more than 40 years.
During his forestry career, Frank fought more than 100 forest fires throughout the U.S., taking great pride in never losing a single soul under his care. In 1994, he retired from the Forest Service, moving to Craig to be closer to the mountains he loved.
In recent years, Frank worked at the Best Western Inn in Craig.
A devout Seventh Day Adventist, Frank was also a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Barclay Street. He counted many of his co-workers and fellow congregation members among his close friends and extended family.
Frank is survived by siblings Joy, Elaine, Eva and Jerry; children Judy, Konnie and Steve; grandchildren Stephanie, Katie, Jennifer, Jessica, Michelle, Steve, Craig, Michelle, Annie and Billy; great-grandchildren Laura and Bart; and two great-grandchildren on the way.
A memorial service conducted by Pastor Eric Nelson will take place at 11 a.m. today, Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Barclay Street.
