Margaret L. (Hlas) Donahue, of Chandler Hall in Newtown, Pa., died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012. She was 92.
She was born in Farrell, Pa., the youngest child of Anna and Andrew Hlas.
Margaret married Robert L. Donahue in 1941 in Farrell. His military commitment took them to California, Texas, Arizona and Michigan before moving to Markham, Ill., in 1946, where they raised five children.
Margaret loved to sew, make hats and knit. She also enjoyed bowling, golf and snow skiing. She was a regular performer in plays in a community theater group in Markham. In 1979, they moved to Springfield, Ill.
After her children were grown, Margaret was a volunteer at St. John’s Hospital, Sojourn Thrift Shop and Avenue Thrift Shop in Springfield. She was a devoted Catholic and an active parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her son, Martin.
She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Lawton and husband LeRoy, of Craig; Karen Beauvais and husband Mix, of Steamboat Springs; Susie Malinsky and husband Greg, of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; and Kathleen Perry and husband, John, of Newton, Pa. Margaret’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, where friends and relatives will be received at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery immediately following.
