Patricia Ann Hesselgren

June 14, 1943 - May 7, 2012

Patricia Ann (Wallace) Hesselgren died Monday, May 7, 2012.
She was born June 14, 1943, to Marian and Melvin Wallace in Waynesville, Mo. She grew up with siblings Louise, Dwayne, and Charlotte in Macksburg, Iowa, a town about the size of Maybell.
She was a star basketball player and valedictorian of her class and went on to obtain her degree in accounting at Barnes Business School in Denver.
In 1972, she married Bill Hesselgren, and a couple of years later she gave birth to their daughter, Kristine. Seeking a less urbanized setting to raise a girl, the small family moved to Craig in 1975, where they took root.
Pat was office manager for Cook Chevrolet for about 20 years and retired.
That’s some history, now a little about the woman who so many came to love.
Pat suffered some health problems all her life, starting with the dreaded polio. That fight cost her some enduring issues, but she minimized them, excelled in sports and academics, and simply lived her life as she wanted, with love and devotion to her family and God.
After retiring, she spent much of her time looking after her mother, who was brought into the household where she stayed for about 15 years until medical necessities were too much for home care.
When Marian was moved to Sandrock, Pat frequented the nursing home, visiting with and fussing over not only her mother but other residents as well. As time went on and grandchildren started showing up, she bonded intimately with them and became a super fan of soccer, T-ball, swimming, and anything else they did. She was their confidant, playmate, and mostly, she was their loving Grandma.
Pat was preceded in death by her father, and leaves behind her husband and soulmate, Bill; daughter and best friend Kristine Cooper, of Hamilton; grandsons Nathan and Matthew; granddaughter Anna; mother Marian Wallace, of Craig; sisters Louise Peckham, of Indianola, Iowa, Charlotte Brown, of Creston, Iowa, and brother Dwayne Wallace, of Manson, Iowa, to mourn her passing and cherish her memory.
