Patricia Dowlene Whitesell died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center in Grand Junction. She was 66.
Pat was born to Rufus and Ruby Mae (Warren) Earle on Aug. 22, 1945, in Elk City, Okla. Her family moved from Oklahoma to Colorado in 1946, settling in Craig, where she grew up and spent most of her life living close to family.
Pat married Thomas Whitesell on Oct. 12, 1965, in Craig. They were married for 37 years.
Pat was employed for many years at The Memorial Hospital in Craig, where she worked as a cook and also a caregiver. She always loved to nurture and care for others, including her patients, and in later years, her family.
In October 2009, she moved from Craig to Grand Junction.
Pat was kindhearted and generous. She loved her husband and family, spending as much time with them as possible.
Although Pat never had children of her own, she loved children and was a big kid at heart.
She enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, and in later years, their children. She loved to reminisce with her family and share her treasured memories of loved ones.
She enjoyed many outdoor activities, including camping, fishing, hunting and even snowmobiling. Pat also enjoyed collecting angels, roosters and Elvis memorabilia.
She is survived by her sister, Arlene Kent, of Grand Junction; Foye (Shelia) Earle, of Elk City, Okla.; Edna (Robbie) Robinson, of Craig; Carrie Hanes, of Cushing, Okla.; and Thomas (Anita) Earle, of Craig.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Hazel Mae Taylor.
A service to celebrate her life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at Calvary Bible Church in Grand Junction.
