Evelyn Pearson

Evelyn Pearl Woodward Pearson was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Oronogo, Mo., the daughter of Albert and Pearl (Weaver) Woodward. 
She was raised and attended school in Oronogo and Webb City, Mo. 
Following high school, Evelyn studied music and took secretarial classes.
Evelyn married Marvin W. Pearson on Feb. 1, 1945, in LaJunta. They made their home in various places in the western U.S., including Idaho, Utah, Oregon and Denver, before moving to Craig in 1971.
She was a choir director everywhere, a newspaper reporter, bank teller, secretary, church finance accountant and a wonderful mother. 
She served on The Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for more than 30 years, was choir director at the Congregational Church for more than 30 years, was involved with the Community Concert Association for more than 30 years and was a member of PEO for more than 45 years.
Evelyn died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at her home following a lengthy illness. She was 89.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Marvin Pearson, of Craig; daughters Marilyn (Jim) Purdy, of Arvada, and Janet Lee (Jim) Cheskaty, of Grand Junction; son Lowell (Pam) Pearson, of Sedalia; grandchildren Scott Purdy, Brooke Grenemyer, Matthew Purdy, Jonathan Pearson and Tanya Fittz; and great-grandchildren Matthew Fittz, Andrew Purdy and Ja’el Pearson.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at First Congregational Church. 
Memorial donations may be made to the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice or the Memorial Fund of the United Congregational Church, both in care of Grant Mortuary.
