Ada Mabel Vesely, 97, was called home to be with the Lord on Oct. 23, 2011. She was born the oldest of six children to Milo LeRoy and Clara Alice Hoggatt McPherson on Dec. 12, 1913, in Savery, Wyo.
They buried her dad on her ninth birthday.
She spent her childhood on Salter Creek, Columbine and on Roan Creek. She started working at age 13 to help support the family.
She met her husband, Frank, at a dance in Hahns Peak. They were married April 4, 1933. To this union four children were born, Donna, Darrell, Delores and Darwin.
They lived at Columbine, Hahns Peak, Steamboat Springs, Idaho Springs, Clark and Provo, Utah, before moving to Craig in 1943, where she spent the rest of her life.
Mabel was a beautiful person who always had a smile and an open door. She enjoyed company and being with family and friends. Her home was always full of love and laughter. She and her siblings were all very close all their years.
Mabel loved to read. She read the Bible from cover to cover several times throughout her life. As long as she was able, she enjoyed attending church.
Mabel also liked to sew, embroider, do jigsaw puzzles and play games.
Mabel will always be remembered for her chicken and noodles and dumplings, homemade rolls, and her homemade taffy at Christmastime, which she did until she was 95. She was a wonderful cook and was always happy to prepare you a meal. The family will always remember her at the ranch, fixing them all her buttermilk pancakes.
In her final years, her son Darwin was able to live with her, and Mabel appreciated and enjoyed the constant companionship and comfort he provided. It was a blessing to her to be able to remain in her home because of the care of her children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1979; three brothers, Edgar (Minnie), Everett (Zora) and Arlo (Mina) McPherson; sister, LaVurn (Jim) Zimmerman; daughter-in-law, Frankie (Dietrich) Vesely; son-in-law, Alvin Stewart; and one infant great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her brother, Marvin (Joyce) McPherson, of Fruita; half-sister, Aileen (Paul) Wynkoop, of Fruita; four children, Donna Stewart, of Rangely, Darrell Vesely, of Fruita, Delores (Mickey) Coleman, of Craig, and Darwin Vesely, of Craig; 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; 26 great great-grandchildren; nine step great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at Calvary Baptist Church on Oct. 29, 2011, with the Rev. Gary Pierson, of Livermore Falls, Maine, and the Rev. James Brown, of Glenwood Springs, officiating.
Interment followed in the Craig Cemetery.
