Kirby Barber died Monday, May 2, 2011, at Sandrock Ridge.
He was born July 28, 1931, in Sheridan, Mo., to Samuel F. Barber and Zelth P. Payne. He was the oldest of five children.
Kirby married LaVerna (Coleman) Barber on June 5, 1951, and to that union two children were born.
Kirby proudly served 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in Korea and Vietnam.
When he came home, he served four years with the Boulder Police Department.
After his divorce from LaVerna in 1972, he moved to California and worked in security at Burbank Studios before he missed Colorado and his family so much, he moved back to Denver.
There, he worked in security at Aurora Mall before health problems forced him to retire.
In 2006, he moved to Craig to be near his daughter and son-in-law.
Kirby is survived by son
Michael Barber, of Denver; daughter Colleen Swedenburg and son-in-law Chris Swedenburg, of Craig; grandson and granddaughter–in-law Alex and Courtney Swedenburg, of Craig; brother, William Barber, of Fort Lupton; sister Agnes Kubacki, of Littleton; sister-in-law Ruth Barber; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, and brothers Dennis Barber and Larry Barber.
Kirby was buried Thursday, May 19, 2011, with full military honors at Fort Lupton Cemetery.
