Lowell J. Allred, age 66, died at The Memorial Hospital in Craig, on Saturday, July 9, with his family by his side.
Lowell J. Allred was born Jan. 26, 1945, in Vernal, Utah, to Weldon and Orva Allred. As a child, Lowell moved to Craig with his family. He attended school in Craig, graduating in 1964. Lowell’s first job was shining shoes at Bob and Jerry’s Barber Shop. Later, Lowell worked at Bill’s Supermarket and local ranches. Lowell married Cheryl McStay in 1963, they had two children, Sonda and Regina. Lowell worked on area ranches in Moffat County and Carbon County and later worked at McCandless Animal Hospital. Lowell was a volunteer for Moffat County Sheriff’s Posse, Craig Fire Department, ambulance driver and EMT. Lowell followed his passion of hunting, serving as a guide for area outfitters. It was through his contacts of guiding that Lowell moved to Louisiana in 1976. Lowell worked as a platform operator in the Gulf of Mexico for 32 years. While living in Louisiana and Mississippi, Lowell developed a passion for Cajun cooking. He came back to Craig at least twice a year to visit family and to hunt and he always brought a freezer full of catfish and shrimp. Lowell never missed a class of ‘64 reunion. Upon retiring in 2007, Lowell moved back to Craig to be near his family.
Lowell is survived by daughters, Sonda Etheridge (Bill Harding) and Regina (Kelly) Grinolds, all of Craig; grandchildren, Adrienne Etheridge of Midland, Mich.m, April Etheridge of Craig, and Kayden Grinolds of Craig; siblings, Tora (Lonnie) Dunn of Eaton, Linda Hultz of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dee (Sharon) Allred of Craig; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lowell was predeceased by parents, Weldon and Orva Allred, and sisters, Bonnie Noland, Gayla Richardson and Wendy Taylor.
Lowell enjoyed hunting, camping and spending time with his family. As requested by Lowell, there will be no memorial service.
