Archie Edwin Gilroy died Sept. 30, 2010, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig. He was 78.
Archie was born Sept. 30, 1932, in Dixon, Wyo., the son of George Galord and Sarah Gladys (Hopf) Gilroy. Archie was raised in Dixon and graduated from high school in Baggs, Wyo.
Archie served in the U.S. Army from December 1952 until December 1954.
He married Mary Joan Guerin on Jan. 7, 1957. Archie worked on the family farm, for his brother-in-law Ralph Paulson at his filling station in Craig and then operated his own filing station in Roosevelt, Utah.
He then returned to Craig, where he was a carpenter until moving to Vernal, Utah in 1990.
Archie enjoyed woodworking and had a small shop at his home. He loved people and his dogs. Due to failing health, Archie spent his later years as a resident of the Uintah Care Center in Vernal, where he served as president of the resident’s group.
Following his wife’s death in November 2009, Archie returned to Craig earlier this year to be near his sister, Faye, and her family.
Archie is survived by his sister, Faye Paulson, of Craig; brothers Eugene (Ellen) Gilroy, of San Benito, Texas, and Robert (Lu) Gilroy, of Gillette, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Betty and Lucille; and brothers Lloyd, George and Donald.
