Riley S. Sovine, formerly of Craig, died May 19, 2010, in Independence, Kan., following a brief illness. He was 69.
Riley was born Feb. 5, 1941, in Hurricane, W.V., the son of Howard T. and Thelma (Smith) Sovine. He was raised in West Virginia until the family moved to Salida, where Riley graduated from high school in 1959.
He married Donna James on Oct. 10, 1959, in Salida. They made their home in Salida and became the parents of two children, Nikki and Rob. Riley was an automobile salesman and operated his own business in Salida from 1980 until 1984.
The family moved to Craig in 1984 and Riley worked for Victory Motors and later for Craig Ford.
Donna died in 1992, and on June 5, 1998, Riley married Marcia Paulson and became the father of five other children. In October 2006, Riley and Marcia moved to Independence, Kan.
Riley enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, socializing with his friends and was always content in his chosen occupation of selling cars.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Sovine, of Independence, Kan.; daughter Nikki (Chris) McLeslie, of Craig; son Rob (Treaza) Sovine, of Craig; daughter Katrina Sovine, of Independence, Kan.; stepdaughter Sandra Paulson, of Independence, Kan.; stepsons Blake (Michele) Paulson, of Las Vegas and Ryan (Jennifer) Paulson, of Angola, Ind.; sisters Marian Cottrell, Carol Rowsey and Lois (Jim) White, all of Hurricane, W.V.; brother Denny (Jane) Wise, of Colorado Springs; and numerous grandchildren.
Riley was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tim and Doug Wise, and stepdaughter Stacey Roundtree.
A memorial service was held May 24, 2010, at The Grant Mortuary Chapel in Craig, with Tim Glenn officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were “All his Family, Friends and Loyal Customers.”
