1931 - May 5, 2010
Barbara May Lewis, of Grand Junction, died May 5, 2010, at the Care Center of The Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado. She was 79.
Barbara May (Tritz) Lewis was born April 26, 1931, in Glenwood Springs, the daughter of Henry F. and Theda F. (Bolding) Tritz.
Barbara’s parents moved to Leadville, where she met Edward Richard Lewis at the age of 12 and they became soul mates.
They were married July 16, 1949, in Leadville, and made their home there and were blessed with three daughters, Colleen Marie on March 19, 1950, Vickie Jean on May 22, 1952, and Gayle Frances on June 24, 1958.
In 1978, Barbara left Leadville and moved to Craig, where she and her husband became cattle people.
Edward would work at Yampa Valley Electric Association and Barbara would be at home with the animals, and her brother, Dale Tritz, would come to visit.
Barbara was a true city slicker and feared the animals, but when her heart talked to her, out she would go to rub the cow’s tummy or tell it to breathe, or she would pull a calf with her brother so all could live.
She might also go roll the horse because she was stuck under the fence. The animals felt her love and were grateful for the help.
In 1988, Barbara and Edward moved to the Grand Junction area. The moved around the different areas and settled in Clifton, where it is beautiful all year. They grew small tomatoes to take up their time.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Theda and Henry Tritz, and granddaughter Bianca May Flanders.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Lewis, of Grand Junction; daughters Colleen (Wayne) Dell, of Grand Junction, Vickie (Michael) Flanders, of Hayden, and Gayle (Dave) Barkee, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; grandchildren Edward Dell, Theda Godfrey, Michael Flanders, Jr., Amanda Boswell and Wyatt Flanders, Brandie and John Barkee-Jay, and Daric and Tricia Barkee; great-grandchildren Raven Godfrey, Salem Godfrey, Cadon Godfrey, Carson Godfrey, Austin Flanders, Cody Boswell, Ethan Boswell, Morgan Flanders, Talon Flanders, Hanna Jackson, Cadence Barkee and Lyric Barkee; and her brother, Dale Tritz, of Craig.
