Jay L. Briggs, 90, of Cameron, W.V., died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Moundsville, W.V.
He was born March 30, 1919, in Glen Easton, W.V., the son of the late Talbert and Allie Dobbs Briggs.
He was a retired carpenter with Carpenters Union No. 0003 with 50 years of service, was a member of the Church of Christ in Cameron and a well-known woodcarver and cabinetmaker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Briggs; his second wife, Margie Barnes Briggs; three brothers, Earl, Ivan and Kenneth Briggs; and three sisters, Crystal Rush, Sybil Clifton and Anna Ruth Blake.
Survivors include three daughters, Bonnie Simmons, of Kennwick, Wash., Connie (Luke) Shipp, of Iran, Texas, and Kathy (Sherman) Dye, of London, England; a son, John (Lesetta) Briggs, of Wind Ridge, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, where a funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Evangelist Emanual Daughtry officiating.
Interment is in Halcyon Hills, Sherrard, W.V.
