Robert Dee Owens died July 9, 2010, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was 77.
Dee was born Oct. 20, 1932, in Greeley County, Kan., the son of Edward J. and Mable (Brewer) Owens. He was raised in Kansas and near Monument, where he graduated from high school.
After high school, Dee served in the U.S. Navy for four years.
He married Iris D. Amos on Sept. 27, 1958, in Black Forest, and over the ensuing years became the parents of three sons. They lived in various places in Montana, Colorado and Kansas before moving to Craig six years ago.
Dee helped build the Air Force Academy in the late 1950s, but most of his life, he worked in agriculture and ranching.
Dee enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He was a member of Craig Christian Church since 1974.
Dee is survived by his wife, Iris, of Craig; sons Raymond and his wife, Cyndee, of Craig, Rodney, of Maybell, and Robert and his wife, Stevie, of Craig; grandchildren Caleb, Chayton, Dale, Kacie Bailey, Ashley, Madison and Brett; sister Wanda Kendrick and her husband, Bill, of Delta; brother Donald and his wife, Mary Jo Owens, of Davenport, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Cassie; and brothers Ray, Paul and Jim.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service was July 11, 2010, at the Craig Cemetery with Howard Cowan officiating.
