Alice Van Tassel 1929 - 2010
Alice Van Tassel died June 26, 2010, at her home in Greeley, surrounded by all seven of her children. She was 80.
Alice was born Aug. 18, 1929, to Panko (Paul) and Julia Kawcak in rural Moffat County. She was one of 16 children.
She married Gilbert Van Tassel on Jan. 24, 1948, and together they raised seven children. Alice was a Colorado native, and lived in Craig, Collbran, Clifton, Grand Junction and Greeley
Alice enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, watching all of Colorado’s professional sports team and working on word search puzzles. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating family memoirs.
Besides being a rancher’s wife and homemaker, Alice worked at various department and fabric stores. She worked as a courtesy clerk until the age of 76, and only retired because of health issues
Many remember her smile and warmth from those times.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; her parents; son-in-law Tom Hawkins; and four brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by children Kathleen Hawkins, Daniel Van Tassel, Karen (Sonny) Waggoner, Kristine (Ron) Robledo, Darrell (Sharon) Van Tassel, Karyl Van Tassel, and Derek (Mary Kaye) Van Tassel; 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two sisters; and five brothers.
A rosary was said at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on July 1, 2010, followed immediately by viewing. A funeral mass took place July 2, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Junction, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
