Maurice R. Chapman died Jan. 1, 2010, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig following a lengthy illness. He was 73.
Maurice was born Aug. 27, 1936, in DuQuoin, Ill. He was raised and attended school in Tamaroa, Ill. After high school, Maurice served in the U.S. Air Force.
He married Angela Quiroz in 1956, and they had three children: Maurice Jr., Yancy and Martha.
He married Beverly Adcock on July 21, 1962 in Tamaroa, and they became the parents of three sons. They were later divorced.
In the late 1970s, Maurice moved to Craig and worked for Empire Energy Corp., and Twentymile Coal Co. as a warehouse technician.
Maurice married Pauline Garcia on March 27, 1987, in Craig.
Maurice enjoyed working around his yard and his home, and spending time with his grandchildren. Maurice had a fondness for automobiles and working on them, passing this knowledge on to his sons.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Chapman, of Craig; sons Gregg (Ruth) Chapman, of Minneapolis, Minn., Doug (Rebecca) Chapman, of Aurora, and Brett Chapman, of Steamboat Springs; 13 grandchildren; great-grandson Jordan Anderson; and numerous other relatives on his wife’s side.
He was preceded in death by three children, Maurice Jr., Yancy and Martha; grandchild Anthony James Chapman; his parents; sister, Thelma Kanacki; and brothers Harry Chapman Jr., and Richard Chapman.
A funeral was Jan. 6 at The Grant Mortuary Chapel with Leonard Browning officiating.
Pallbearers were Jake Garcia, Jerry Monger, Butch Combs, Richard Garcia John DeSpain and Richard Lovelady.
Honorary pallbearers were “All His Family and Many Friends.”
Interment followed in the Craig Cemetery with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265.
