Veldon W. “Lop” Behrman, a longtime Maybell resident, died Feb. 11, 2010, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig after a brief illness. He was 70.
Lop was born March 9, 1939, in Vernal, Utah, the son of Horace and Vergie Pearl (Wooley) Behrman. He was raised in Vernal and Tridel, Utah, and Rangely.
Lop married Colleen Carlisle on Jan. 23, 1959, in Salt Lake City. They became the parents of three children and made their home in Salt Lake until 1973 when they moved to Sunbeam, northwest of Maybell.
Lop was in the construction business his entire adult life and was operating his own company in the Craig area at the time of his death. In his earlier years, he worked as a sheepherder for his uncle, Ferd.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and his racehorses.
Lop is survived by his wife, Colleen Behrman, of Maybell; daughter Julie (Darwin) Haskins, of Maybell; sons Larry Wayne “Butch” (Stacey) Behrman, of Craig, and Russell V. (Nancy) Behrman, of Maybell; grandchildren Josey (Christalin) and Jesse Haskins, Brooke, Talin and Layne Behrman and Bailey (Luke) Basham; great-grandchildren Avrial Graisyn Hankins, Carson James Haskins and Riley Thompson; sisters Sharon (Darryl) Steele, of Maybell, and Donna Rae McKowen and Lou (Gerald) Clark, both of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Joyleen Haslem, of West Jordan, Utah; brothers Dean Behrman, of Washington, Buff (Eva) Behrman, of Vernal, Utah, and Floyd (Hazel) Behrman, of California, and Ike (Joan) Behrman, of Fruita.
Lop was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service was Feb. 17, 2010, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Craig with Bishop Forrest Luke officiating.
Interment followed in the Craig Cemetery.
