Mary Katherine “Kay” Servatius died Feb. 5, 2010, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig after a brief illness. She was 77.
Kay was born April 12, 1932, in Denver, the daughter of August and Katherine (Mary) Ruehle.
She was raised in Honduras until she was 12 and her family returned to Denver, where she attended St. Mary’s Academy and Loretto Height’s College. She later attended Colorado Northwestern Community College in Craig, where she obtained her associate’s degree.
Kay married John B. Servatius on April 11, 1953, and they became the parents of one boy and three girls.
They made their home in East Prairie, Mo., for many years before moving to Craig in 1973. Kay was a homemaker as well as an accomplished artist, and she enjoyed horseback riding, animals, gardening, cooking and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Kay is survived by her husband, John Servatius, of Craig; daughters Laura Jean Servatius, of Colorado Springs, Holly (Jim) Richardson, of Douglas, Wyo., and Kathy Knez, of Craig; grandchildren Katie, Megan, Kelly and Connor Knez, and Billy Richardson; brothers Robert Ruehle, of Denver, Ray (Nancy) Ruehle, of Gunnison, and Bill (Joan Rae) Ruehle, of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son John Ray Servatius.
Cremation has taken place, and memorial services were Feb. 10, 2010, at St. Michael Catholic Church with Fr. James Fox officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were “All Her Family and Many Friends.”
