Roy John Scott died Jan. 29, 2010, at his home northwest of Craig following a brief illness. He was 81.
Roy was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Craig, the son of William C. and Bertha L. (Eberle) Scott. He was raised and went to school in Craig. Roy served in the National Guard and later in the U.S. Army during which time he was stationed in Berlin, Germany.
He married Cora McCracken on Aug. 29, 1959, in Grand Junction and immediately became the father to six children. They made their home in Craig and Big Gulch, and Roy worked with his brother in the farming and ranching business. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and is a life member of the National Rifle Association.
He enjoyed fishing and being with his family.
Roy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cora Scott, of Craig; daughters Deanna Larsen, Janice (Cal) Gardner and Linda (Merlan) Murphy, all of Roosevelt, Utah, and Marlene Blank and Kathleen (Jesse) Calderon, of Craig; grandchildren Trenna Clark, Debbie Harris, Cindy Lawson, Raylene Hoffman, Beckty Lintner, Mike Mower, Melissa Prestangen, Carlina Diaz and Monica Zobell; 19 great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren; and brother John Scott, of Craig.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; son Raymond Mower; grandson Tim Clark; brother Robert Scott; and son-in-laws Bill Blank and Jay Larsen.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service was Feb. 3, 2010, at The Grant Mortuary Chapel with Jason Haskell officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Fawcett, Lynn Bower, Don Seick, Gene Updike, Dick Butler, Gene Counts, and Mike and Jim Eberle.
Memorial donations may be made to the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association and hospice in care of Grant Mortuary.
