1940 - October 31, 2009
Erma E. Ozbun, a former Craig resident, died at her residence in Fruita on Oct. 31, 2009.
She was 69.
A mother and grandmother, Erma was born Erma Ethlen Klaus on Jan. 17, 1940, in Craig. Erma spent the majority of her life in Craig, graduating from Moffat County High School in 1958.
She attended Mesa State for a period of time after her high school graduation. She went on to marry Larry Ozbun, of Great Bend, Kan., in 1960.
From this union came two daughters, Lori and Lisa. Erma and Larry later divorced.
Erma spent a number of years working for the local supermarkets in Craig, enjoying the great amount of people she had the pleasure of meeting every day.
She retired in August 2004.
Her hobbies included reading, gardening and cooking, but her true love was her family, particularly her 14 grandchildren, who called her “Gwamma.”
Erma relocated to Fruita in March 2008 after experiencing health problems.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Seighardt and Emma Klaus.
Survivors include her daughters, Lori and her husband, Dave Longwell, of Craig, and Lisa and her husband Dan Scott, of Palisade; sister, Alma, and her husband, Bill Lenz, of Neosho, Mo., and their four adult children; step-mother, Elvaretta Green-Klaus, of Grand Junction; and her 14 grandchildren: Ben, Beka, Jon, Rachel, Bethany, Hannah, Nathan, Matthew, James, Mary, Mercy, Sarah, Joel and Joshua. They will miss their “Gwamma.”
Erma’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Oaks Assisted Living Center and Alpine Hospice for their love and care of their mother and “Gwamma.”
A memorial service was Nov. 7, 2009, in Craig at 616 County Road 31.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Teen Challenge “House of Promise” at 7750 6025 Road, Olathe, CO 81425.
