Thelma L. Whicker, 93, of Lay, died April 30, 2009, at the Doak Walker Care Center in Steamboat Springs after a brief illness.
Thelma L. (Doolin) Whicker was born Oct. 12, 1915, in Parnell, Iowa, the daughter of Stephen and Ida May (Mattison) Doolin. She was raised and attended school in Iowa and moved with her family to Moffat County when she was 16.
Thelma married Ralph V. Whicker on Dec. 4, 1936, in Craig.
They made their home in Moffat County, and Thelma worked as a clerk at Hested's and was a homemaker.
From 1976 to 1992, they made their home in Vernal, Utah. Thelma enjoyed sewing, cooking and working in her garden.
She is survived by her daughter, N. Lorene (John) Miles, of Bloomfield, N.M.; sons Vernon L. (Charlene) Whicker, of South Berwick, Maine, Wayne (Judy) Whicker, of Belleville, Ill., and Dale (Carol) Whicker of Farmington, N.M.; daughter-in-law Sharon Wagner, of Craig; grandchildren Spike and Brian Whicker, Tom Miles, JoAnn Brown, Greg and Cindy Whicker, Shawna Phillips, Valarie Amormino and Angelina Jones; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Pat (Roger) Brannan-DeJong of Lay.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Zada White, son Val Whicker and granddaughter Susan Rants.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services were May 9, 2009, at the Grant Mortuary Chapel, with Linda Taylor officiating. Musical numbers were "Stars In The Crown" and "In The Garden" sung by Maxine and Ron Empson, accompanied by Betty Morris. Honorary pallbearers were "All Thelma's Family and Her Many Friends."
Interment of her cremains followed at Maeser Fairview Cemetery in Utah where she was laid to rest next to her husband, Ralph.
