December 7, 1928 - December 19, 2008
Jane Seilaff, a longtime Carbon County, Wyo., and Craig resident died Dec. 19, 2008, in Craig.
Marion Jane was born Dec. 7, 1928, to William Crout and Jeannette Culleton Crout in Laramie, Wyo., the youngest of five children. Jane attended school in Laramie, Tie Siding and Green River, Wyo.
On Nov. 13, 1948, Jane married Robert Bruce Seilaff in Rawlins, Wyo. This is where they made their home and life. Bob and Jane had five children, Barbara Kay, who died at 6 months, Susie, Robbie, Bruce and Sally. Raising their children, Bob and Jane spent their time remodeling their home, camping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Bob was killed in an accident on July 18, 1981, leaving Jane a young widow.
Jane moved to the Snake River Valley in fall 1982, making her home in Dixon, Wyo. She enjoyed life on Snake River. She sang with the River Queens, was in the community theater group and also spent many years as a member of the Reader Cemetery Board. She was their map tender until she moved to Craig in 2001.
She worked from the mid-1980s to 2001 at the Savery Museum as the curator. These were among the happier times in her life. While working there, she put in many hours working on research of different history. She was the person that opened the Research Center at the museum. This makes files and information available to people looking for family and information about the Snake River Valley. She spent many hours telling everyone who would listen about the history of Snake River she had studied and researched. She enjoyed visiting with people.
She couldn't get history out of her system, and when she moved to Craig, she became a volunteer at the Museum of Northwest Colorado.
Jane moved to the senior housing in Craig because of medical reasons and always hoped to move back to the Snake River Valley, since she considered this home.
Jane was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Dixon. She enjoyed crafts, beadwork, reading history books, her time with family and friends, and collecting angels.
She started an exercise group at Sunset Meadows while living there and always was coming up with new things for the people living there to do. Jane always was involved in something that had people around.
Jane is survived by four children, Susan (George) Robidoux, of Baggs, Wyo.; Rob (Melodie) Seilaff, of Dixon; Bruce (Barbara) Seilaff, of Rawlins, Wyo.; and Sally (Harold) Rollins, of Craig; thirteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents; three brothers; one sister; and one daughter, Barbara.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 3 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the America Cancer Society and Northwestern Colorado Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice in care of Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Ave., Craig, CO 81625.
