Robert Ora Simmons died Nov. 24, 2009, at his home in Craig. He was 91.
Robert was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Great Falls, Mont., the son of Emmett and Flora (Lockery) Simmons. He was raised in the Great Falls area and attended school in Cascade. After high school, Robert joined the U.S. Navy.
While stationed in San Francisco, Bob met Jean Blankenship and they were married in September 1945 in San Francisco. To this union three children were born.
After his discharge from the service, Bob and Jean moved back to Cascade, Mont., and he worked for his father in their grain elevator. Bob eventually purchased that business and operated it until he sold it at age 75.
Bob then moved to Great Falls and just took life easy. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and bowling. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, at one time served on the Cascade Town Council, and was a member of the volunteer fire department.
Bob moved to Craig five years ago to be near his daughter, Renae, and her family.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Renae Fisher, of Craig; grandchildren Julie Fisher, of Craig, Dennis Monroe, of Kalispell, Mont., Clifford Scott Fisher, of Craig, and his sister Ursula Christian, of Helena, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jean, and sons, Robert and Michael.
Cremation has taken place and his cremains will be interred at a later date in Montana.
