1954 - September 16, 2008
Sharon Lee Valdez Schoening died Sept. 16, 2008, at Yampa Valley Medical Center. She succumbed after a year-long battle with cancer. She was 53.
Sharon was born Sept. 29, 1954, in Thornton, to Charles (Chuck) and Mary Espinoza Valdez. She attended Holy Cross Catholic School in Thornton through eighth grade and graduated from Thornton's Highland High School with the Class of 1972.
Sharon worked for most of her career in Denver at U.S. West, where she held positions including executive assistant and manager for the corporate quality department. After relocating to Hayden in 2003, she worked for Continental Airlines at Yampa Valley Regional Airport.
Sharon greatly enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and she loved her home. She gardened and cooked, loved pretty flowers and found great pleasure in producing batches of her exceptional green chili.
Sharon made friends easily and always took time to get to know people and volunteer to help where she could. She will sadly be missed by so very many people.
She leaves behind her husband of 24 years, James (Jim) Schoening; her father, Chuck Valdez, and his wife, Barb; her sister and niece, Charlotte Adams and Crystal Rolley; her father-in-law, Ron Schoening, and his wife, Bonnie; sisters-in-law Jane Hancock and Kathy Schoening; and brother-in-law Neil Schoening.
Funeral services were held Sept. 20 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Craig, with Father James Fox officiating. A rosary was recited by David Hainault on Sept. 19 at Grant Mortuary Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made on Sharon's behalf and will gratefully be accepted by the Yampa Valley Infusion Therapy Unit in care of Grant Mortuary. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.grantmortuary.com.
