Kirk "Corky" Lu Voeltzel died Sept. 14, 2008, at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.
Corky was born March 31, 1941, in Craig, to Inez Irene (Hart) Voeltzel and George W. Voeltzel. He spent most of his life working on ranches throughout Colorado, Nevada and Idaho. He had a great love of animals and enjoyed working with them. Though he loved animals, horses were his pride and joy.
He married Nancy Hake on April 17, 1969. They had two daughters, Barbra Inez Voeltzel Coleman and Jamee Robyn Voeltzel Newton.
Nancy died in 1990.
Corky has four grandchildren: Sean Hake, Caleb Newton, Franklin Newton and Nathaniel Newton. He is survived by his children, sisters Darlene Rolando, of Hayden, and Vicki Serr, of Paul, and brother Don Voeltzel, of Inkom, Idaho.
Corky was preceded in death by his parents, Inez and George W. Voeltzel.
He will be missed by his coffee-drinking buddies, who knew him for his mischievous grin and playful sense of humor. He could be found most mornings swapping stories with his friends and joking with the waitresses.
His family misses him and will always love him.
A graveside memorial service took place Sept. 20 at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Diabetes Foundation.
